Here are a few Alexandria, VA shingle roof replacement projects we’ve done.
Before and afters below:
The roof below wasn’t leaking that the owners could see, but it was pretty close to the end of its useful life. The shingles used to be a cloudy gray color but over time stains and algae took over the roof. Roofs are more aesthetically important on houses with steeper roofs because you can see more of it.

After: We removed all the old roofing and changed out a few areas of rotted roof decking where the roof was silently leaking. The leaking was coming from a mismatched skylight and flashing assembly that the previous contractor installed. We installed new drip edge, ice dam protection, new underlayment, pipe collars Timberline HD Shingles in Slate and a new ridge vent. I think it looks a lot better now and the owners agree.

Before:

After: New GAF Timberline Oyster Gray with new copper chimney flashings

Before: The brown shingles did nothing for this mansard roof.

After: These Timberline Charcoal shingles give the roof some real mass that seems to tie the brick, siding and shutters together.
